Raphael’s Disputation of the Holy Sacrament is perhaps the only complete earthly image we have of a heavenly reality: Jesus Christ risen and glorious yet remains ‘God with us’. He is Emmanuel, the miracle of the Incarnation, now the miracle of Transubstantiation.
The same Holy Spirit who brought us Jesus through His spouse, the Virgin Mary, continues to bring us Jesus through His power conferred on our Catholic Priests at their Ordination. During the Liturgy of the Eucharist time and space are suspended, heaven and earth are joined becoming ‘one existence’, enfolding all the faithful into it’s sublime reality. This is why the Church teaches that the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the Christian life.” (LG 11)
There are grand processions and celebrations, worldwide, for the Feast of Corpus Christi, and rightfully so, but only one who gives it purpose; the one who is ‘In persona Christi’.
Be sure to take the time amidst the festivities to thank him.
