No confusion here.
Today Pope Francis drew on Revelation and the Church’s dogmatic expression to reaffirm the Church’s traditional position on the sacramental ministry of the diaconate for males only.
He was responding to a question on the female diaconate posed by Sister Katharina Ganz, Superior of the Oberzell Franciscans in Germany during the annual gathering of the International Union of Superiors General of Women Religious taking place in Rome.
It appears to be our dear Holy Father’s modus operandi to allow free and open discussion on issues up to a point before restating the Church’s teaching clearly and without ambiguity.
